Paul Cuffee Upper School (PCUS) senior, Darius Lenus, was among the sixty-two Rhode Island recipients of the 2024 Herbert and Claiborne Pell Medal for Excellence in the Study of U.S. History. As explained by Ms. Brittany Ruiz, Darius Lenus was nominated by the PCUS History Department “because he has embodied the spirit and values of the award consistently throughout his academic career at PCUS. Throughout his coursework, Darius has exemplified historical empathy and curiosity as well as the importance of asking questions to critically-explore historical narratives and dialogues.” Darius dedicated his Capstone Research Project to the importance of history classes and curricula in K-12 classrooms throughout the United States.
